Movie inspired by the Olympics will be shown at the Lexi Cinema

An aspiring film writer is celebrating after winning a competition which will see his production hit the big screen at a Brent cinema.

Daniel Bailey will see his masterpiece The Boxer projected onto the big screen at the Lexi Cinema in Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Rise.

The 22-year-old, who lives in Neasden, has been crowned the winner of Brent’s Project 7 scheme, which encouraged young talent in the borough to help produce a short film inspired by the Olympics.

The initiative was organised by film production company Scruffbag Productions and set out to engage 14 to 24 year olds who were required to write and help produce a short film based on the core Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

Mr Bailey’s film, set at the Stonebridge Boxing Club, centres on the relationship between two family members who become heavily involved in the sport.

The 22-year-old, who heard about the project after attending a script writing workshop at Granville Youth Centre in Kilburn, said it felt ‘amazing’ to have won.

He said: “It’s been an amazing and surreal experience watching a piece of text that I had written manifest into such a powerful piece of visual art.

“Working on the project has been a truly inspiring experience and I can not wait for the screening and hope that the work is accepted by all people who take the time to watch it.”

The film, along with the runner up piece will be showcased during a special screening at the Lexi Cinema in Chamberlayne Road at 6pm on April 17.
