The inquest of a man from Essex who was hit by a train in Willesden while fleeing police will take place next week.

Devante Keane, from Colchester, died after he ran on to railway lines near Dartmouth Road during the 40 minute chase on November 12, 2013.

The 20-year-old had been stopped by police on suspicion of possessing drugs but broke free from two officers.

During the pursuit he was observed from a distance for around 40 minutes by a police helicopter and search dogs during which officers said they saw him climb over fences and cross railway lines before he was killed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) reviewed the incident and passed it on to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.

The five-day long hearing will be led by coroner Andrew Walker and will take place at North London Coroner’s Court from June 1.
