A public meeting and “birthday party” to celebrate 65 years of the National Health Service and debate the impact of reforms takes place in Stonebridge tomorrow.

Brent Council leader Cllr Muhammed Butt; Patrick Vernon, a former senior director for the NHS in Brent, and Labour MP Diane Abbott, the shadow minister for public health, will be among the speakers at Bridge Park Community Leisure Centre in Brentfield.

Speakers will discuss the impact of reforms on the NHS, plans to close the accident and emergency ward at Central Middlesex Hospital and public health initiatives.

The NHS was launched on July 5 1948 and a birthday cake will be cut to mark the anniversary.

Organisers want residents to share birthday messages by emailing samantha.banton@nhs.net.

The meeting, which is called by trade union Unison, is from 4pm to 6pm.

Email Samantha Banton to confirm attendance.
