Brent is making a bid to be hailed the London Borough of Culture in 2020 and calling on residents to help make it happen.

The council has launched a dedicated website to capture selfies and videos sent in by supporters of the borough’s wealth of cultural activities.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “Brent has hosted iconic and memorable moments like Live Aid and Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday concert but we are so much more than the events at Wembley Stadium or Wembley Arena.

“Important though these venues are Brent is bursting with culture from grassroots groups who have chosen Brent as their home.

“We have music, dance, theatre, art and food from all corners of the globe right on our doorstep and I am truly excited to see how local people want our bid to evolve.”

There is more than £1million up for grabs from the Mayor of London for a programme of events which will showcase the winning borough’s cultural story.

Residents can tweet comments, pictures and videos @Brent_Council or use the hashtag #BackBrentsBid

Brent will submit its application on December 1. The winner will be announced in February.
