Football legend Geoff Hurst hosted a special tea party in Wembley Stadium aimed at helping Brent pensioner develop their digital skills.

At the event, dubbed ‘Tech Tea Party’, which was organised by the iconic stadium’s sponsor EE, guests enjoyed a selection of refreshments, and were then given a crash course in using modern technology

They were shown how to browse the web, shop online and use a video calling programme to keep in touch with friends and loved ones.

Fellow 1966 World Cup hero George Cohen joined Mr Hurst at the extra special tea party to mark the occasion and took the opportunity to brush up on their online skills. Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, who attended the do with the deputy mayor of Brent, Cllr Lesley Jones, said: “Modern technology provides a fantastic opportunity to help combat loneliness among the elderly by helping them stay connected with friends, family and loved ones.

“It also presents an opportunity for older people in Brent to access any information they would like from the internet, including updates through the council’s own website about the services that are available to them.”
