Plans for new canalside housing in Alperton have been given the green light despite opposition from a neighbouring business.

Brent’s planning chiefs unanimously agreed the scheme in Beresford Avenue should go ahead at a meeting on August 15.

The plans include 31 homes at the site of Afrex House, of which just five of which will be classed as “affordable”.

According to planning officer Victoria McDonagh, this “better meets the needs of Brent residents” and is a “more appropriate offer”.

The decision came despite protests from the owners of Kuntals, a wholesaler that sits next door and will be affected by the new building.

They claim the shared parking unit, which they rely on for deliveries, will be compromised.

But the applicant Inland Homes explained that it was “aware of the right of way” and assured the committee it would be maintained.

The developer must contribute a £50,000 levy for affordable workspaces in Brent.
