An emaciated dog which was rescued from his neglectful owner has found a loving new home thanks to an animal charity in Kensal Green.

Ben, a 10-year-old Labrador and Collie cross, was discovered living in such bleak conditions that he was unable to use his back legs due to muscle weakness.

After he was found by officers from the Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Gardens, he was brought under the charity’s roof and nursed back to life.

Ben’s owner told the officers he had seemed fine until two weeks ago when he began losing weight, however they believe that was unlikely and he had probably been deteriorating for much longer than that.

Ben was suffering from gut and digestion issues so he was put on a drip to get his strength back and slowly introduced to small meals to ease him back onto a healthy diet.

He has now been given a clean bill of health and has found a new home.

Gillian Notton, The Mayhew’s head of animal welfare, said: “We are so glad that Ben has now fully recovered and that we were able to find him a loving forever home.”
