Gareth Daniel is expected to be ousted out of his £203,342-a-year post

The chief executive at Brent Council is on the verge of being ousted, a source has told the Times.

Gareth Daniel is expected to leave his post in the next few days following a break down in relations with Cllr Muhammed Butt, the leader of the council.

Hours after the Times exclusively revealed that relations between the two have sunk to an all time low with both refusing to work with each other, the pair will hold a crunch meeting tomorrow.

According to a source, Mr Daniel’s ‘days are numbered’ and that both men will ‘be bashing out a golden handshake’ at the meeting.

The fallout has split the borough’s Labour Party group with a senior councillor showing support for Mr Daniel rather than Cllr Butt at a meeting on Monday.

The councillor, who is member of the Executive, attempted to put forward a motion outlining complete confidence for the chief executive and other members of the senior management team.

Cllr Butt became the leader of the council in May after successfully challenging Cllr Ann John OBE.

Mr Daniel has been at Brent Council for 26 years and has held his current role for 14, making him one of the longest serving chief executives in the country.

If he leaves his £203,342-a-year post prematurely he will be entitled to a substantial payout.
