Archant

An alleged gunman from Wembley blasted a rival in the chest in a drive-by shooting in Sudbury then fled to Spain, a court heard.

Romario Green, 20, managed to stagger a few paces before he collapsed and died in Harrow Road, Wembley, on July 2 last year.

The Old Bailey heard he was shot after he brandished a knife at two men inside a silver Ford Focus following an earlier argument.

The prosecution cannot say who the gunman was but allege one of the car’s occupants, Abdullah Amouri, 22, is responsible for his death.

Amouri and his alleged accomplice, who is not in the dock, are said to have rowed with Mr Green and two of his friends after an evening smoking cannabis near the Fisher’s Way Estate.

After the argument, Amouri and the second man returned to the scene in the Ford Focus, the Old Bailey heard.

Witnesses saw Mr Green’s group shouting at the car as it drove slowly passed them and giving chase on foot.

Someone threw a bottle at the car, jurors heard.

Mr Green then charged at the car with a knife, before someone in the vehicle fired the fatal shot.

The burnt out wreck of the car was not discovered until three days later, while the shotgun was found on the roof of a flat linked to Amouri’s accomplice.

The car was easily linked to Amouri by his insurance policy.

Renardo Johnson, 25, Nathan Franklin, 23, and Jacob McClean, 24, are accused of helping Amouri him dispose of the shotgun and his car and helping him flee the country.

All deny the charges.

Amouri was not tracked down in Spain until March of this year – he was charged with murder when he touched down in the UK.

He denies murder.

The trial continues.
