Pair were shot following argument in St Cuthberts Road

The two victims of a double shooting in Kilburn have been revealed as mother and daughter.

An 11-year-old girl was shot in the foot and her 48-year-old mother was hit in the chest and leg after a gunman opened fire in Chelsea Crescent at the junction off St Cuthberts Road, last night at 9.40pm.

Four other people were at the address at the time but escaped injury.

Detectives from Operation Trident, the Met’s specialist team that probes gun crime, said two black men were spotted fleeing the scene.

A witness told the Times two groups of men were arguing in the street before six shots rang out followed by screaming and shouting.

He said: “Another set of cars pulled up and an argument broke out, it quite aggressive and that’s when shots were fired.

“A young girl was running and fell over but then the police came and tried to break it up.”

He added: “Normally this estate is OK but occasionally you get trouble with gangs and stuff.”

Peter Smiths, 45, who lives nearby, said: “I thought it was fireworks at first, because the bangs were so frequent, then I heard screaming and shouting.

“I didn’t hear anything for a while but then police came and there were blue flashing lights everywhere and they blocked the road off.”

Mr Smiths added: “There has been trouble with the estate before, people have asked for security cameras to be put up.”

Detective Inspector Glenn Butler, who is heading the investigation, is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “This incident occurred in a residential area, which may have lead to a number of people seeing what occurred.

“If you saw anything unusual within Chelsea Crescent and the surrounding roads, then please contact the incident room.

“The motive for this incident remains unclear but I am keeping an open mind as to all possibilities.”

Anyone with information should the incident room on 0208 733 4774 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 11.
