A Harlesden teenager who sexually assaulted a woman as she got off a night bus has been jailed for a year.

Kim Ezzat Rashid, who lives in Manor Park Road, approached the 22-year-old woman on the N18 night bus last July.

The 18-year-old was sentenced to 12 months in jail at Southwark Crown Court last Friday after pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault.

The court heard the woman boarded the N18 night bus at 3am on July 23 and was approached by Rashid who sat down beside her.

He started to ask her personal questions and complementing her on the way she looked and wouldn’t stop despite her requests to leave her alone.

Rashid followed her off the bus at Ladbroke Grove junction with Harrow Road bus stop where again, she pleaded for him to go away.

However Rashid grabbed her, pinned her against the glass of the bus stop and sexually assaulted her.

The victim managed to push him off her and run away while Rashid ran away in an unknown direction.

Rashid was arrested in late August following police inquiries and identified from the bus CCTV camera.

DS Adnan Qureshi, of the Met’s roads and transport policing command, said: “I want to praise the victim for her courage in having to relive this horrific incident during police investigation. This has without a doubt, resulted in a perpetrator of a revolting, sexually motivated offence receive time in jail.

“I urge anyone who experiences any kind of assault or unwanted sexual behaviour, to report it to police immediately as it can help us target the perpetrator and prevent it happening to another passenger.

“If you commit an offence on London’s transport network, we will pursue and arrest you.”

Steve Burton, TfL’s director of enforcement and on-street operations, said: “We commend this woman for having the strength to speak to police after what must have been a terrible and frightening experience.

“We are pleased that the offender has been jailed for his vile actions. We will not tolerate any kind of unwanted sexual behaviour on our network and we work closely with the police to bring offenders to justice and will always push for the strongest penalties.”
