A drug dealer from Harlesden has been jailed for driving with a police officer on his car bonnet while trying to avoiding arrest.

Sergeant Paul Street said it was “pure luck” that no-one was injured during the “extremely unpleasant experience” after Andre George, from Crome Road, tried to run him over.

George, 27, who was jailed for four years on February 17 at Peterborough Crown Court, was spotted by two plain clothed officers dealing drugs from a car in Cambridge on November 3.

When the officers approached George and identified themselves he drove off, knocking Sgt Street onto the bonnet and travelling approximately 70 metres with the officer on the vehicle.

Sgt Street was uninjured and managed to arrest George when the vehicle stopped.

George pleaded guilty to being concerned with the supply of a Class A drug and assault with intent to resist arrest.

He was sentenced to three years and six months for the first charge and seven months for the second, to run consecutively.

Sergeant Street said: “This was an extremely unpleasant experience which highlights the dangers that police officers face on a day to day basis.

“It is hard to explain just how frightening it was being on the bonnet of a vehicle travelling at speed, but it was by pure luck that nobody was seriously injured as a result of this incident.

“I think the sentence reflects the violent nature of this crime. Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s officers are working extremely hard to keep the residents of Cambridge safe from these types of individuals, and will continue to do so.”
