Clifford David stabbed Chris Telford after they met through an iPhone dating app

A gay IT student who tried to kill a teacher from Kilburn he met through an iPhone dating ‘app’ has been locked up indefinitely today.

Clifford David, 21, stabbed Chris Telford with a kitchen knife then bludgeoned the 42-year-old with a hammer in a ‘sustained and determined’ attack.

Southwark Crown Court heard David, a computing student, met Mr Telford in the summer of 2010 through the gay and bisexual chat mobile phone application Qrushr.

They met three times at Mr Telford’s studio flat in late 2010, embarking on a sexual relationship.

David broke off the relationship in December 2010, but returned to the flat on February 15, 2011, when he launched the attack.

During the attack, David screamed: “You killed my mother. Shut up and die” as he pinned Mr Telford to his bed.

He bit the teacher before fleeing the blood-spattered studio flat when neighbours Richard Gray and Peter Cassidy knocked down the door.

When arrested David callously remarked to police: “He deserved it”.

Judge Stephen Robbins handed David an indeterminate prison sentence for the protection of the public, and said he should serve nine years before being considered for release.

He said: “It is difficult to imagine a more serious case of attempted murder than this one.

“This was a sustained and extremely violent attack on the victim using three weapons on him.

“You stabbed him, bludgeoned him, then tried to asphyxiate him.”

The judge award £500 each Mr Gray and Mr Cassidy and a police recommendation.

The court heard the attack on Mr Telford had been ‘overwhelming’, and he was only fit to return to work fulltime in September this year.

David from New Cross, southeast London, was convicted of attempted murder.

He will be deported back to Nigeria when he is released from prison.
