A Dollis Hill accountant faces jail after stealing £110,000 to put up friends and family at the four-star hotel where he worked.

Nasser Ahmad, 42, hacked into the upmarket Regent’s Park Danubius hotel’s computer system to divert money from an unmonitored account to pay the bills.

His scam was exposed in 2013 when an auditor spotted a £475 credit card refund to a relative who had stayed at the hotel, in Lodge Road, St John’s Wood, for two months.

Investigations revealed Ahmad made credit card refunds totalling £23,181 and £48,126 in cash refunds, £44,862 in bank card transactions and £3,255 in reception cash refunds.

Representing himself, Ahmad, of Chapter Road,
Dollis Hill, claimed he was the victim of a racist conspiracy involving colleagues before changing to a guilty plea two weeks into his trail at the Old Bailey.

The court heard Ahmad started in the hotel’s accounts department in 2001, later gaining unrestricted access to the hotel’s computer system as financial controller.

He targeted an unsupervised cash account after spotting a blind spot where large sums of money were left to accumulate after guests paid for breakfast, but did not take it.

On being exposed, Ahmad confessed, begged forgiveness and offered to repay £5,000.

Ahmad – who had a second job at Tesco – later sent an email claiming he had made a “genuine mistake”, adding: “I am from a middle class family, if my purpose was to earn money like this why would I kill myself working two jobs?”

Prosecutor Vivek D’Cruz said: “He manipulated the system to make the hotel pay or part-pay for his friends and family.”

He admitted three counts
of fraud by abuse of position and one count of false accounting.

Judge Michael Gledhill QC bailed Ahmad ahead of sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on June 28.
