Daniel Roque Hall was stopped at Heathrow Airport after flying in from Peru

A disabled man who tried to smuggle £370,000 worth of cocaine into the UK by hiding it inside his wheelchair has been jailed.

Daniel Roque Hall, of Willesden Lane, Kilburn, was caught with almost three kilos of the class A drug after he was stopped at Heathrow Airport in November last year.

Isleworth Crown Court heard the 29-year-old had flown in from Peru, via Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, when Border Force officers took swabs from his wheelchair which showed positive for traces of cocaine.

An x-ray revealed a number of packages were concealed within the removable leather seat of his wheelchair.

Forensic tests showed the cocaine was of high purity and if cut and sold on the streets it would be worth around £370,000.

Roque Hall admitted attempting to import a class A drug and today (Thursday) was sentenced to three-and-a-half year in jail.

Pete Avery, from Border Force, said: “Roque Hall may have thought that because he was in a wheelchair he would be above suspicion, but our officers are trained to expect the unexpected.

“The cocaine hidden in his wheelchair was of a very high purity and there is no doubt in my mind that had he not been stopped it would’ve ended up being cut and sold on the streets of London.”
