A man has been convicted of raping a Brent woman after breaking into her home and threatening her with a pair of scissors.

Andrei Makara, 40, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, one count of assault by penetration and count of robbery.

The court heard how Makara broke into a 33-year-old woman’s house-share in Brent at about 10.40pm on July 24, before threatening her with a pair of scissors and raping her.

He then forced the victim to hand over her bank card and PIN, saying he would kill her if the details were wrong.

He also stole a bike belonging to the victim’s husband before leaving the address.

The woman told cops about the robbery the same night, and reported the rape two days later.

Det Con Alan Wong said: “I would like to commend the victim for her bravery and having the courage to report the incident to the police.

“Her evidence was vital in ensuring a dangerous individual has been brought to justice. Understandably she has been left deeply traumatised, having to move house within days.

“I hope today’s conviction will give her some measure of comfort and closure.”

Makara will be sentenced at the same court on September 26.
