Brent’s first skate park will be built in a Grade II-listed park despite residents’ reservations.

Construction of the concrete skate park will go ahead in Victorian Roundwood Park, Harlesden, on the condition that CCTV cameras are installed for the first six months to monitor possible anti-social behaviour.

Brent Council’s planning committee approved plans for the skateboard zone last week in the face of opposition.

Anita Murray, who lives nearby, said noise would add to existing issues with anti-social behaviour in the park.

She added that floodlighting, proposed to be turned off at 9pm, would not be work in winter months, and that primary school children would no longer be able to use the space for PE lessons.

She said: “Consider the safety, not only of the neighbourhood, but of those who use the skate park as well.”

Cllr Lia Colacicco, committee member, said: “It’s very exciting having a skate park.”

The application was accepted by four votes to two with one abstaining.

It is not yet known when it will be built.
