A fall-out between the six Conservative councillors in the borough will see the party split in half – just two weeks after the local elections.

Brondesbury councillors Carol Shaw, Joel Davidson and John Warren will distance themselves from their Kenton colleagues following a disagreement during the party’s annual leadership elections.

The feud occurred after Kenton councillors Suresh Kansagra, Reg Colwill and Bhiku Patel were given the positions of leader, deputy and chief whip of the group respectively.

The Brondesbury Park trio hoped one of them would have been given a role. They also claim their Kenton party colleagues failed to support their bid to reintroduce the £1-a-day scratchcard parking system for visitors, which was scrapped by the Labour administration last year.

Cllr Warren said: “In an ideal world, we would have agreed on our priorities and shared the positions. We will simply fight our own corners on behalf of the residents we represent, but we will come together to tackle the Labour Group.”

Cllr Davidson added: “The problem is we feel the leadership roles should have been shared and our priorities are not the same.

“The reintroduction of parking scratchcards is something we put a lot of effort into campaigning for but we do not feel they fully support us in this. I have been working extremely hard to try to keep the group together. I want a united party of six rather than two lots of three.”

Cllr Kansagra said: “It is still raw at the moment so I do not know how things will go. It is to do with personalities, not politics. I hope the situation gets resolved soon.”

In 2008, then councillors Atiq Malik and Robert Dunwell left Brent’s Tories to form their own party called the Democratic Conservative Group.
