A graveyard was cordoned off after a body was found in the early hours.

Police were called to the cemetery of St Mary's Church in Church Road, Harlesden, at 4.46am on Thursday (December 11) morning to reports of a dead man.

Officers and the ambulance service arrived to find the man, thought to be 21, dead.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at a north London police station.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post mortem and inquest will be arranged.

Residents in the area said the graveyard and pathway beside it have long been a hangout place for drug takers and drinkers.

Cllr David Clues, Dudden Hill ward and priest at St Mary's, said: "We regret the tragic incident which happened this morning.

"The police have assured us that when they have done everything we will up and running again.

"It is a problem area and it's something that the council and the church have been working on.

"It's also a badly lit area and it's not the kind of place that people feel comfortable using."
