Sixty people were evacuated and road closures are in place after a fire broke out in Kilburn Library in Queen’s Park this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the reports of a small fire on the ground floor of the Victorian library building on Salusbury Road at 2:54pm.

Sixty people fled the scene before fire crews arrived and at present there are no reports of any injuries.

A small area of the ground floor was damaged by the flames.

Salusbury Road at the junction with Victoria Road is currently closed while emergency vehicles leave the scene and there are diversions in place.

Transport for London tweeted: “Salusbury Rd j/w Victoria Rd (Queens Park/NW6)- the road is blocked both ways due to a building fire. Expect local delays on diversion.”

The fire had been brought under control by 3:18pm.

The library is expected to remain closed until tomorrow.

A spokeswoman for London fire brigade said: “Fire crews were called at 2:54pm to reports of a fire in the ground floor of a two-floor library on Salusbury road.

“Sixty people were evacuated before fire crews arrived and the call was over by 3:18pm.”
