German movie maker will discuss ‘Into the Abyss’ via satellite
A renowned film producer will answer a variety of questions following a special screening of his latest film at Kensal Rise cinema.
The Lexi Cinema, in Chamberlayne Road, will be showcasing Werner Herzog’s documentary feature ‘Into the Abyss’ culminating in a live question and answer session via satellite with the German movie maker.
The film investigates Capital punishment, and focuses on two men held in Texas State Penitentiary prison following a triple homicide which occurred in Conroe, Texas in 2001.
One of the men, Michael Perry, received the death penalty for the crime while the other Jason Burkett was given a life sentence.
The film focuses on the two men and the various people affected by their crimes.
Capital Punishment is still legal in seven US states and Herzog, who also directed the famous Nonfatal the Vampire in 1979, addresses the taboo issues that shroud the controversial subject.
Herzog paints a tragic picture of deprivation, in which drink and drug dependence are the norm in the prisons themselves.
The film screening will take place on March 27 at 6.15pm followed by the Q&A session
