Triumph turns to disaster for Willesden duo
JAYNE Paine and Kirsten Savage both fell foul of a treacherous road surface just days after their trophy successes at Willesden CC's annual dinner.
Paine, the club's road race and track champion, was brought down in a pile-up at the Imperial Racing Team's circuit event at Hillingdon on Saturday, but escaped unscathed.
Teenager Savage - who had collected both road race and track awards in the schoolgirls' section the previous week - was not so fortunate after falling at the Team Quest reliability trial near Pinewood.
Savage had finished second in the under-14s' race, but then went down - along with several other riders - on the icy surface and has now broken a bone in her elbow.
In the Hillingdon race, Willesden's Lance Woodman avoided the crash to take 44th place, while team-mate Peter Dixon was the club's fastest finisher in 13th.
Meanwhile, Willesden pair Gill Reynolds and Peter Cookson attended the London veterans' lunch held at Aldenham Golf Club to collect the team award medals they won in 2009.
